January 2021: The Farm and the City and the Radio

the farm and the city radio

Black Creek Community Farm is pleased to be one of three partnering farms and one of the five community organizations featured in The Farm and The City and The Radio project. The Farm and The City and The Radio project will be presenting three new videos featuring urban farms located in three corners of Toronto.

These videos are the first of a five-part art project called The Farm and The City and The Radio. The project is an interactive sound work by Big Pond Small Fish Laboratory about what feeds and connects us developed in collaboration with community partners, artists, and farmers. Created over the spring and summer of 2020, the Farm Tour videos are scheduled for release on January 11th, 2021 in conjunction with an online public conversation with participating urban farmers. The project continues with eight poetic six-minute podcasts, three “farm tour” videos, and two videos that engage with and reinterpret the podcasts with ASL accessible video.

All programming is hosted by our community partner, RadioFWD.

Big Pond Small Fish and Krys Verrall are pleased to present new work and The Farm and the City and the Radio Jam on January 19, 2021 at 2pm EST, featuring a short film screening and conversation between farmers and artists. Please RSVP through this Event Link.

Conversation with Andrew Lochhead and Darren Reinhart from Artscape Gibraltar Point, Connor Allaby and Jhamela Stapleton from Black Creek Community Farm, Beatrice Lego from the Edible Campus, University of Toronto Scarborough and Ramisa Tasfia (moderator).

The project included an artist talk on November 17th with Krys Verrall and Gita Hashemi for the Arts, Culture, & Media Visiting Artists Lecture Series at the Doris McCarthy Gallery.

These podcasts and videos will be on-goingly broadcast by RadioFWD, Doris McCarthy Gallery, and Big Pond Small Fish websites.
